PHILOSOPHY
Our development philosophy is quite different from others within the seedstock industry. It is our goal to replicate the average rancher’s typical environment as best we can. This means we do not creep feed our bull calves, graze irrigated pastures, nor provide any unnecessary supplementation while they are maturing. The adjusted 205-day weights are representative of the animals’ true and natural growth, given a common environment. We are not interested in “flashy,” we are interested in long lasting functionality and transparency. What you see, is what you will get!
BULL DEVELOPMENT
As fall calves, the bulls receive their mother’s milk and any fall green-up pasture. Throughout the winter they are fed the same diets as the remainder of the herd: alfalfa/grass hay and free choice mineral. Once spring hits, the calves are weaned and sent out on dryland pasture. It is during this time that they learn how to forage for themselves, just as they are expected to do while they are working for you. Come late summer, they are transitioned to free-choice grass hay and a moderate ration of oats, canola meal, and mixed screenings. They receive this ration for approximately 3-4 months, prior to being sold. We have chosen to develop our animals this way, slowly, to avoid the possibility of inflating their natural growth numbers. Additionally, we feel that by avoiding over conditioning our bulls too early, it increases their potential to have longer, healthier breeding futures.
